Remember the Phantom

Phantom of the Opera

Grand Circle D13 in Her Majesty's Theatre, Haymarket, London.

This is the first time I have been to a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber. In the scene where Christine meets Raoul for the first time after many years, a member of the audience whispered loudly ' Is that the Princess?' After the show I decided that I will cover the songs from the Phantom of the Opera. Not sure who will sing Christine's role yet but we'll see how this turns out.

I have now resolved to look for a male singing teacher who can take me through classical / musical theatre singing. Hopefully this should be soon.

One more needed

Current listen hits on SoundCloud is 699. Need one more hit to get to 700.

Feel.                         108
Stairway to Heaven 104
Angels.                      88

Soundcloud Cull

A review showed that a number of tracks have received less than 20 hits after 20 days of being available to the listening public.
These have all been made private since they have not proved to be popular.

All covers now on Souncloud will have 20 hits or more or they must have only been up for 20 days or less.

More comments

Again a comment dealt with the keyboards etc and I decided to make it crystal clear that  the Yamaha Notestar platform is producing the music and I am just doing the vocals.
Replicated this information on all my Soundcloud tracks.

Comments...

Today saw my first two comments on SoundCloud which helps to break the sound silence.

One commented on my guitar playing but this was produced by the backing track - I was just doing the singing.

Although there is an explanation of the use of backing tracks and midi in the artist description, I will need to make it clearer in the song description. Or start to play the guitar when I do a cover? All things are possible..

Only the best.... Gets deleted

Hard to believe but I somehow managed to delete my all time number one cover 'Feel' by Robbie Williams. I was using the Yamaha Audio Recorder apps and swiped a line meaning to go down and it deleted my track. Serious flaw in the software not sure I will use again with a log in to SoundCloud. Just too risky.  Managed to find the original recording on my iPod and uploaded. Then joined two additional groups and posted the song there again and also tweeted the new link.
Anyway long and short is it is still number 1..

Stage Name

My stage name is to do with computing. Every computer needs a circuit board and I used a vivid equaliser setting on my final version of Angels - so my new stage name is VividCircuit.

Hopefully that will be a reasonable choice.

Who knows?

Fourth Angel

This was my final effort. I used the Yamaha Audio Recording App and then normalised the track and added the equaliser using setting no 4 to match the attempt. (vivid).

And I think I just found my stage name. No not Angel...

Three Angels

I recorded 3 versions of Robbie Williams' 'Angels'.

1. This was recorded in bed of all places. There is a line which says 'And then I'm lying in my bed..'
Used the IRigsoftware on iPod.
2. Used FiRe recording software on iPod and this came out pretty good but the 'Alls' did not come out too well. The only extra was the medium compression setting.
3. Used the IRigsoftware on iPod. The first Angel does not sound right but otherwise the rest of the song sounded ok.

Twitter Followers

I thought things are looking up. 8 twitter followers. Eight. So I thought lets just have a look at my new follower - normally I follow them by default. The title of her website gave it way. Suffice to say the word oral was there but not in the dental hygiene sense. So I reported this account to twitter as spam / abusive and the account was immediately removed from my band of twitter followers.
I want my sites to be accessible to all and I do not want to be prudish but I have to draw the line just above the belt otherwise standards slip.

Stage name wanted.....

Sting, Bono, The Edge and Elton John all have something in common. What is it?

They are great singers? That is true - they are. But the thing they have in common is they all use stage names rather than their own names.
None of us can choose our parents and therefore we cant choose our given names either. Sometimes the name is such that people fixate over the name rather than the music or it just creates a stereotype of what the music is going to be like.
From the beginning of my YouTube and SoundCloud adventure I decided not to use my full name mainly because there are too many Zs and people can never pronounce it anyway so what would be the point?  So my initial venture this year was based on my initials mpdc2 and  was given to me about 4 years ago so I simply used that. Then I became Mpdctwo but it still a mouthful to pronounce and instantly forgettable.

How do I find a cool name that sounds like a stage name but is not stupid or can be turned against me?

Sweet Caroline observations

Never realised just how short (under two minutes) this song actually is. Perhaps that helped to propel it to such a mega hit when it first came out.
I used a new app on IPad FiRe and used iRig Cast Mic. Had medium compression levels set as default.

Feel (Robbie Williams) cover by Mpdctwo

Feel (Robbie Williams) cover by Mpdctwo

Click the link above to go to the soundcloud music. Self promoted this track onto two other soundcloud groups and that appears to have made all the difference. Three days ago this track had 28 hits which has now tripled to over 90 hits.

Astonishing.

You can help them by taking a listen to my cover by spending just a few seconds listening to my cover of FEEL by Robbie Williams I think I think I captured the essence of the song.
Of course nothing beats the original which is available for under a pound on iTunes.

Here is the photo from Yamaha Audio Recorder.

What's in a name?

Just trying to get the name right has been a bit of a musical journey for me too. I hope this name will be the final when chosen since each name change involves a considerable amount of work.

Other name attempts which failed the test:
GeminiOneStudios
SoundLikeMike

Finally

MusicByIpadStudios.  Is the name I have settled on.

My name of the website platform simply reflects what I have been doing from when I started this journey two and a half months ago.

I have been using the iPad / iPod almost exclusively to do the recording and also to do the music in providing the backing tracks or to do MIDI with my keyboards. Why studios? Well I presently record  in two locations so it should hardly be studio which would mean one location.

The iPad combined with the iPod computer systems is going to completely change the way music is made in the future. Levels of music genre experimentation will increase exponentially prompted by the incredible cheapness and high quality of the music apps which are available. This means that any person of school going age is able to use their pocket money to get an app and try it out.
The iPad is going to become to music what the spectrum ZX 81 was to computing.

Too many Geminis

There are too many different versions of Gemini about. So I had decided to go with something that people who knew me might say 'Hey, that sounds like Mike' only I didn't know he was such a good singer and musician. Wow. So that is where 'SoundsLikeMike' has come from.
